Changing names as a band sucks. Our Kiwi Rock Brothers Shihad know this all too well. But sometimes it just has to be done. When we started Dear Deer two years ago we never thought we'd be here. It was a side project that was always meant to live on the fringes. Play a few shows, write some tracks, have a few laughs.
The name Dear Deer popped into our heads and we were off. This was before we had a first rehearsal - we never expected that first 3hr rehearsal to produce 6 original songs, which lead to shows, bigger shows, festivals, bigger festivals and here.
The hard truth is, we know now there are two other bands called Dear Deer, a record label and a clothing company. It was now or never - change the name or have to deal with bigger consequences down the track. As we head in to record our first album, the time for change was now.
So Dear Deer will always live in the fond hearts of our memories, but from here forwards we are Echo Knot. Same guys, same back catalogue, but a whole new world in front of us.
