We are Echoknot

EchoKnot is a Post-Rock band that formed in Queenstown, New Zealand in 2015. The trio of Joe Barron-Cowie, Scott Kennedy and Andy Paterson weave a sonic landscape that varies between gentle and giant. Taking inspiration from 80’s art-rock, 90’s shoe gaze, 2000’s big beat and blending them into a sound that can at once be immersive and cathartic, anthemic and anarchic.

After forming as Dear Deer in 2015, critical interest and shows soon followed. They hold the odd distinction of booking their first show before writing their first song. The first blush of success saw the band play a series of shows that leaned heavily on improvisation as they found their sound.

2017 saw the band solidify it’s sound, make some personnel changes and re-launch itself as EchoKnot. Their live show became a fixture as they embraced the immersive multi-media experience that has become a trademark of the band. Welding light, film, music, musicians and audience has made them festival favourites in their native New Zealand.

To date the band has been a mainstay at the LUMA Light Festival in Queenstown, New Zealand where their light sculptural work incorporating live performances have become fan favourites of the annual outdoor art event attended by 60,000 people.

In 2019 they released their first studio album, ‘Under a Mountain.’ Recorded at their studio in Queenstown, NZ the record bottled up the live EchoKnot experience and laid it bare for listeners. The album was critically well received and charted in Switzerland - yeah, we didn’t expect that one either.

2021 sees them returning to the studio, LUMA and looking forward to making more art.
